Do you dream of studying abroad and would like to continue playing competitive soccer? Read the following to help you determine if going abroad is right for you!

The Big Question: Do you want to attend university and live in another country? Moving far from home isn't for everyone, especially when it involves living in a foreign country.

  • Language and Culture: Even in English-speaking countries like the UK, you'll encounter cultural differences that can create additional challenges (or learning opportunities) to your university experience. Are you excited about living on your own in a different country? If so, that's fantastic!

  • Limited Time to Travel Home: Given both the University and Club schedules, you have limited breaks to travel home especially if you want to explore Europe. Most students find they can travel home for 2-3 weeks during the holidays and 8-10 weeks during the summer.

  • Family Visits: On the flipside, families who are able to travel to the UK get to enjoy watching English football, touring England, and of course seeing their precious children!

And Then the Next Question: Do you absolutely love soccer?

  • For the Love of Football (Soccer): If you're passionate about competitive soccer, studying abroad could help you take your game to the next level! Imagine living in a country where football is the heartbeat of the nation.

  • "Football is life": Considering a sports-related career? UK universities focus on educating students for their chosen field of work. The University of Gloucestershire includes several sports-related bachelor and master degrees to help you pursue a soccer-filled life.

  • Fancy Coaching Others?: While in the program, you have an opportunity to earn UEFA coaching licenses and even build coaching skills through working with youth teams.

Commitment to Your Team is Required

  • More Than Just a Game: In many countries, football isn't just a sport—it's a way of life. If you're offered a spot on an amateur team in the UK, be prepared for a serious commitment.

  • Year-Round Dedication: The football season typically runs from August to May, with training and matches potentially cutting into school breaks. You have to be someone that cares about the teams you are on and will be there for your teammates.

  • Hard Work Pays Off: The exciting part about playing for an English Football Club is the potential for advancement. Your team's achievements can lead to promotions to higher tiers in the English League system. Is that exciting to you?
